South Dakota Summer

Summers here the best. Though we might have a 100 degree day here and there, it always cools off at night and even last week, I wanted a light jacket by 11pm. Don’t hate, please?

I love this time of year.

The grass is green and belly deep. It’s starting to go to seed, and as such the tops are turning brown and it just looks lovely.

Yesterday I spent the afternoon taking photos of said loveliness. I shouldn’t share all of these- I should save some for the book, but I can’t resist.

I love his eyes!

Heaven on earth, don't you think?

I am entering a lot of my photos into a super cool contest and any help that you, my fans, and readers could give me would be much appreciated! It’s all about scenery from the Dakotas, and we all know how much I love living here and how often I capture the beauty of this land. There’s a possibility some of my photos could make the “Capture Dakota” book as well, so any and all help from you that I can get will be greatly appreciated.

Happy Trails and Happy Wednesday!

Cone Flowers

Here on the prairie, there’s all kinds of lovely flowers in the spring and the summer. One of my all-time favorites is the Echinacea Flower or “Cone Flower” as it is commonly called. They’re gorgeous. And yesterday I finally got to see a field of “pink”. I got some really pretty shots, and even found a bug on one of them. Enjoy!

Happy Trails!

Summer Color

It’s blue skies, warm temperatures and GREEN around here! And it also smells phenomenal because the sweet clover and alfalfa are blooming. I’m here today for a little show and tell with this summer color.

I have no idea what all the above flowers are- but I know the purple flowers are alfalfa.

I hope you enjoyed looking at these as much as I enjoyed sharing!

Happy Trails!

Summer Green

You’ll have to pardon my blogging absence. I know that I have been sporadic at best. I wonder if there is anyone even still out there! I am about two weeks behind on blogging ranching activities, and someday I’ll get caught up. Someday. But in the meantime, we’ll look at some recent photos.

Last week, on Friday, I got the chance to take some senior portraits of one of our relatives. She is a gorgeous girl, and the day was just as pretty as she is.

Here are my favorites:

Rodeo Photos

It’s branding week on the ranch, which explains my absence. So since I’m too busy to post in the mornings, this might have to suffice for the week- Rodeo photos from this past weekend! And of course, there’s more where these came from and I will share them when I have time to do so.

All of the photos are not uploaded yet- but I’m getting close! So stay tuned. To see what is uploaded, go here.

All The Pretty Horses

There’s been several trips to the mare pastures this spring, and I have yet to share all the lovely goodness with my readers. So I figured today is as good a day as any, right?

The Brumby- who will be staying with us for the time being:

The famous, “Annie” in a different pose, or two! And I readily admit, I photograph her more than most, because I believe her to be GORGEOUS!

My Favorite Things

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/thesouth/public_html/wp-content/plugins/advertising-manager/lib/OX/Ad.php on line 168

It’s not like I can simply just pick a couple, because honestly, the fact that I wake up each day, healthy and breathing is gift enough, but this week, at Love That Shot, it’s all about our favorite things. There’s more story behind this photo which I’ll share later, but first, I had to show you a few of my favorite things: Blue skies, green grass, My Cowboy and my colt, Dino- who is fast approaching “saddle horse” status, which if you were to ask him, and he could talk, would say that’s all he’s ever wanted to be!

So here’s my entry for this week’s contest:

Zach riding DX Jurassic Classic, aka, Dino

What is not to love about this photo?

There’s a pretty horse, a cowboy with a 5 o’clock shadow, blue skies, and green grass. It makes my heart sing!

A Day in Photos

A couple days ago I was able to take some photographs. I photographed everything from wild onions, to birds, to my new colt, The Fridge. I’m not going to share them all- but I will share some of the ones that touched me the most.

I love the evening light in these photos of my new colt, The Fridge. He is so sweet!

Here’s a killdeer and one of her babies, hanging out by the dam.

And finally this picturesque scene:

Who doesn’t love baby ducks?

Happy Trails and Happy Tuesday!

I Heart Faces

This week, at I heart faces, it’s all about distance.

The photo I chose for this challenge is one I took last year of Kelsey and Kara for their senior pictures. I love the color and the texture and the silhouette. I hope you find it as pretty as I do.

Happy Sunday, y’all!
