25 Reasons to Confess

January 11, 2013 by ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~ 16 Comments

And they’re all the same.

Twenty-five extra pounds on my just over 5′ frame. That’s reason enough isn’t it?

I’m not really going to confess much, but I am going to start a new blog post category-
Friday Confessions.

Twenty-five extra pounds on my just over 5′ frame. That’s reason enough isn’t it?

From a size 5 to, well let’s just say… um… larger.

This was me from about three years ago:

I want this girl back.

So, since the new year began last week, and my schedule is just now returning to normal, I figured this was a good time to, well, confess my sins, and move in the right direction. The skinny, healthier direction.

I’m not going to post a photo of myself each week or anything – though maybe some of you would appreciate that – and God knows we I, need to work on my self portraiture skill with the fancy camera, but I cannot bring myself to do it because I absolutely hate how I look right now.

I’m not sure how it happened, really, this sudden weight gain.

I’m going to blame some of it on hormones, some of it on age, and most of it is my fault for being too busy to set in stone a workout time each day and of course for eating. It’s no secret I love food.

Here’s what’s gonna happen. On Fridays, I’ll confess my workout wins or losses, and give the new weight for the week. You guys can keep me motivated by commenting on your own progress or goals and what you’re doing.

I’ve started the UFC workouts on our Xbox Kinect and I’ve done all of them that I should do for the week! Go me! We will be taking a page out of my friend Suzie’s book and using the #strongisthenewsexy hashtag on Twitter to encourage each other there, and I’m going to stick to my slow-carb diet for at least 6 weeks.  I will re-assess after that time. Saturdays will be my cheat days (beer and Bloody Marys and ice cream! OH MY!), so if I post something yummy to the blog, know I’m not doing it during the week! I also ordered some XC skis, so I plan to familiarize myself with them, and hopefully the weather will cooperate today and dump some snow on us, because most of what we did have melted!

If you have any weight-loss or health goals, I’d love to hear them! Please share! Together we can do it!

Starting weight:  6 Jan, 2013: 144.6
Weight on 11 Jan, 2013: 143.0
Goal: 125lbs and back to my size 5 or smaller pants!

Happy Friday!

Spread the Love!

About ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~

Jenn Zeller is the creative mind and boss lady behind The South Dakota Cowgirl. She is an aspiring horsewoman, photographer, brilliant social media strategist and lover of all things western.

After a brief career in the investment world to support her horse habit (and satisfy her mother, who told her she had to have a “real” job after graduating college), she finally took the leap and stepped away from a regular income; trading the business suit once and for all for cowgirl boots, a hat, and jeans. She has not looked back.

When Jenn first moved to The DX Ranch on the South Dakota plains, she never imagined she’d find herself behind a camera lens capturing an authentic perspective of ranching, and sharing it with others. Jenn has always been called to artistry, and uses music, writing, images, home improvement, and her first true love of horses to express her ranching passion.

Horses are the constant thread and much of her work centers around using her unique style of writing to share her horsemanship journey with others in publications such as CavvySavvy, the AQHA Ranching Blog, the West River Eagle, the family ranch website, and her own website.

Using photography to illustrate her stories has created other opportunities -- Jenn’s brand “The South Dakota Cowgirl” has grown to the level of social media “Influencer”. This notoriety has led to work with Duluth Trading Company, Budweiser, Wyoming Tourism, Vice, Circle Z Ranch and Art of the Cowgirl, to name a few. She also serves as a brand ambassador for Woodchuck USA, Arenus Equine Health, Triple Crown Feed and Just Strong fitness apparel. Her photography has been featured by Instagram, Apple, TIME Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Oprah Magazine. Jenn’s work has been published internationally, has been seen in several books and has graced the covers of several magazines.

Jenn became a social media influencer by accident when she started to explore Instagram as a way to share her life on the ranch with folks that don’t get to experience it. It’s grown into an incredible platform that she uses to empower women, create an environment for self improvement and share life on the ranch.

When she’s not working, she loves to drink coffee, play with her naughty border collie named Copper, start ranch colts, and run about the country chasing cans. Her mother still thinks she doesn’t have a “real” job.

Give your horse or dog, or cat the gift of mobility.

Love this! I’m also working on my goal of losing the 40 pounds that I’ve put on in the past 18 months, so I’m on board. I’ll be here, cheering you on!

I too will be cheering you on. I am also trying to lose some weight this year. I am so glad to be able to follow several bloggers who are doing the same thing. It’s great to be able to support each other in this journey. I would love for you to check out my blog. I’ve been posting on my goals and my progress as I go along. So far i’ve been walking at least an hour every day and eating healthy and drinking tons of water. I really hope i’m able to keep all of that up.

    Good Luck!!

    Go Jenn Go!

It’s tough to come clean with ourselves, let alone others in such a public forum. I’m so proud of you and look forward to all of us supporting each other throughout this process. You’ve taken the first steps by setting up accountability and a support system. Combined, this shows your strength of character and makes me positive you will achieve your goals! #strongisthenewsexy girl.

Congratulations for making the Declaration public. I did also in May 2012. Declared to NO longer be Obese. Down 38 pounds and 20 Fat Inches GONE. Creating the discipline a little like “training a horse” slow and easy and persistent. I used two supplement along with a Food Plan and Activity Plan I designed. Share them anytime.
    I know YOU will succeed!

Jenn, good for you! I admire that you’re taking this on and might have to hop on board with you. I just had to buy bigger work pants and have had similar weight gain over the last 2 years (yikes!) I’ll have to keep up with you – may you have more triumphs than losses 🙂

I need to lose 25 pounds and have been trying to mentally gear up to more healthy eating. I want weight off before June! It is HARD working on ranch with extra weight. Everything is harder. I just cleaned out my pantry. The trick for me is “stuff” cannot come in house so cowboy has to eat healthy also!!!

Over the past few months, I’ve changed my eating habits and become more active. I don’t eat perfectly but I do eat better. I don’t workout as much as I should, but I do move every day. I was at a horse show all weekend so I didn’t do laundry… This morning, I pulled out the box that lives under my bed and holds all of the pants that I used to wear… My goal size, I guess. They don’t fit comfortably enough to wear, but I did get each and every one of them on and zipped up. I’m super focused this week on eating well and staying active. I’m hoping to wear all of those pants very soon!

Goal this year: get down to 134 again (at 137 now). I was at 154 2 years ago, then joined Weight Watchers. I have had a very lazy Janaury so far. My excuse is I am waiting for warmer weather.
Modest goal but after being zealous for 2 years – is this the year I will slack off? Hope not!
I too love food especially wine, beer and sweets and have a hearty appetite. It’s not easy and I support you!
Love your website/blog and have followed you for 3 1/2 years now!

Thanks so much, Anne! You can do it. I’m glad I don’t really have a sweet tooth! And I don’t keep sweets in the house, so I don’t tempt myself either! I don’t miss them when I don’t have them, but if they’re around, I will eat them. 🙂 Feel free to join us on twitter with the hashtag and report in to me on my confession days if you want!

The one supplement that carried me through the “holidays” without gain (and less exercise) is an affordable metabolic Burner.
If anyone interested let me know
