Cake for Breakfast

The best part about a birthday is the leftover cake.

I requested German Chocolate Cake, which is my favorite. A friend and I were talking about cake, and the question came up about what makes a German Chocolate Cake different than a regular chocolate cake. Random question, I know. But I dig it!

So me being me, I went to work, and here’s what I found:

It’s not really German at all, it’s an American creation. It is made with a mild, dark chocolate that was inveted by a man with the last name of German for Baker’s Chocolate Company. It was called “Baker’s German’s Sweet Chocolate, I believe and now the *s* has been dropped. The frosting is original to the cake however, with coconuts and pecans in it.
