I had to take Shuttle back to the vet on Friday (3/9) as he wanted to see if her joint cavity had closed. It hasn’t. So he sent me home with a 1/4/7 treatment of Adequan for her and I am supposed to bring her back next week and he’ll put an Adequan injection in her joint to help heal that cartilage and hopefully clean up the joint cavity itself. She’s been off of Bute since Wednesday and has no idea that she’s injured so that’s a GREAT thing! She’s tough- which is a double edged sword.
I took Sonora with me so that I could have him ultrasound her knee. I didn’t have time to haul her to Granbury back to Doc Howell, so… This doc didn’t see the x-rays or what it looked like when the initial injury occured. He watched her move at the trot and stress tested her knee. She really moved pretty well but he said that she was sorer than he would like to see her just from watching her move out after the stress test. When we put her on the ultrasound machine you could see that there are just two tiny little spots on her knee that aren’t like they should be. So he said he thought that she was at 80% and will be completely sound after she heals. He thought I could go ahead and get back on her, but I’m not going to do that.
The chiropractor/acupuncturist came and worked on her(‘Nora) for 90 minutes on Friday. He knocked out half the remaining swelling in that knee. This week I’ll have Stephanie, my helper do about 15 minutes of hydrotherapy on it daily, as well as start her out on some handwalking for 10-15 minutes daily. I have to have her back by April 7th as I’m giving a clinic for the Denton County 4-H kids that day.
All in all, I suppose the prognosis for both my horses is going good. And all my outside horses are riding great. My truck is still not working like it should but we’ll get that figured out soon too. NOW I just get to figure out how to pay the $4500 in bills that my horses and truck have cost me so far this year! LOL. Ah, such is life.
