A Skipped Confession

March 1, 2013 by ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~ 2 Comments

As far as weeks in my life go, this hasn’t been one of the busiest, but it has been busy, and trying, and interesting to say the least.

The Cowboy has been out of town since Monday morning. He got to go to Arizona for a conference, which left me holding down our fort.  The ranch is being held down by his brother and cousin (who works with us now! hooray!).

Monday I headed out first thing to pick up a package at the post office, get a quote on a new project we’re undertaking (details should come forward at some point but for now it’s a project we’re keeping on the DL). Then I came home and finished doing some photo edits that I’ve needed to get done.  And worked on a project I started back in July. And I got in a good workout!

Tuesday, I woke up to a 60 degree house, and it was 10 degrees outside. The furnace had gone and quit me during the night. I figured I was out of propane, so I checked the tank- 5%. Not out but maybe not enough to run the furnace. The Cowboy called the gas company but that meant in the meantime I would be relegated to my office where I could turn on the space heater. I spent the morning working on a photography project, and then took my laptop, and got some more work done down at Granny’s house. Rode my horses and the propane man came to fill up the tank. By the time I returned to the house that night, it was still cold in here. About 8pm after reading the error code and messing with the start capacitor, the furnace finally decided to come back on. But in the meantime I had 85 likes on this Facebook status: I woke up to no furnace. And I’m going to bed without one too. But the good news is, I have a space heater, wine, a down comforter, and I rode some pretty ponies today (which will count as my workout, because I’m not taking off these layers)! Life is good! Also, I did not workout. But I rode two horses.

Wednesday, waking up to a cozy house was nice! I spent the morning contacting someone about donating a photo session to some kids in need, and ordered a photo book, prints, and graduation announcements. Then I went to the chiropractor, ran some errands and visited my SIL and some friends for Wine Wednesday! I didn’t even come close to having time to workout. But I did ice my back and neck after the adjustment.

Thursday I woke up feeling terrible. I am sure it has to do with the toxins that were released from me being in such sad shape with my back. C1 was the culprit and the doctor found knots in my back I didn’t even know existed! I also got some canvases yesterday that turned out NOTHING Like I envisioned. So let’s make a note, shall we: Don’t use Canvas on Demand. There. That’s out of the way.

Let’s recap the week so far (and add the rest of Thursday in there as well), shall we?

So far this week I’ve done a Photo Book, a collage, two graduation announcements (three designs each), ordered graduation photos, ordered prints and canvases for a gallery exhibit, ordered stretcher bars for said canvases, been to town two of those days, grocery shopped and ran errands, saw the chiropractor, worked on my newspaper article for next week’s West River Eagle, have all but one load of laundry done, cleaned our bedroom, have ridden my horses, and by the time I go to bed Thursday, the kitchen will be clean. I also re-worked my photography price list.

Here’s the custom collage:

And here’s one of the announcements, though not the one they chose. We’ll keep that under wraps!

Whit Back

Whit Front

Still to do this week: fold and put away all the laundry, order more graduation announcements, take photos of some horses for sale, write a blog post, finish and order a marketing piece, put together a package for the Cheyenne River Youth Project, Bangs vaccinate heifers, make brownies and Green Chili Bacon Stuffed Croissants for our “dinner” party at the ranch tonight, I’d like to ride, workout, then maybe take a deep breath. I *may* need a personal assistant.

Happy Trails, keep up the good work and I’ll update my progress next week. I promise!

Spread the Love!

About ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~

Jenn Zeller is the creative mind and boss lady behind The South Dakota Cowgirl. She is an aspiring horsewoman, photographer, brilliant social media strategist and lover of all things western.

After a brief career in the investment world to support her horse habit (and satisfy her mother, who told her she had to have a “real” job after graduating college), she finally took the leap and stepped away from a regular income; trading the business suit once and for all for cowgirl boots, a hat, and jeans. She has not looked back.

When Jenn first moved to The DX Ranch on the South Dakota plains, she never imagined she’d find herself behind a camera lens capturing an authentic perspective of ranching, and sharing it with others. Jenn has always been called to artistry, and uses music, writing, images, home improvement, and her first true love of horses to express her ranching passion.

Horses are the constant thread and much of her work centers around using her unique style of writing to share her horsemanship journey with others in publications such as CavvySavvy, the AQHA Ranching Blog, the West River Eagle, the family ranch website, and her own website.

Using photography to illustrate her stories has created other opportunities -- Jenn’s brand “The South Dakota Cowgirl” has grown to the level of social media “Influencer”. This notoriety has led to work with Duluth Trading Company, Budweiser, Wyoming Tourism, Vice, Circle Z Ranch and Art of the Cowgirl, to name a few. She also serves as a brand ambassador for Woodchuck USA, Arenus Equine Health, Triple Crown Feed and Just Strong fitness apparel. Her photography has been featured by Instagram, Apple, TIME Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Oprah Magazine. Jenn’s work has been published internationally, has been seen in several books and has graced the covers of several magazines.

Jenn became a social media influencer by accident when she started to explore Instagram as a way to share her life on the ranch with folks that don’t get to experience it. It’s grown into an incredible platform that she uses to empower women, create an environment for self improvement and share life on the ranch.

When she’s not working, she loves to drink coffee, play with her naughty border collie named Copper, start ranch colts, and run about the country chasing cans. Her mother still thinks she doesn’t have a “real” job.

What a heck of a week! The good news is it’s a new month and spring is on the way – soon we won’t even have to worry about stinkin’ furnaces (insert appropriate WHOOP here.) I am looking forward to hearing about this mystery project…
