FAQ

Do you have a studio location?

Yes! But it will not be finished or ready for photos until the end of 2016.

Where will the shoot take place?

At the location of your choice, though our ranch is by far my favorite backdrop.

Is Travel Included in the session fee?

As long as it’s within a 75 mile radius of me (roughly Eagle Butte, Pierre, Onida, Gettysburg, or Mobridge), or you come to the ranch. Otherwise, Mileage is $0.58/mile over 65 miles.

What do I wear?

Whatever you’d like, but sometimes narrow stripes/plaids don’t print well/view well, so solids, or wide stripes, paisley, florals, will be fine. If you’re booking a family session, color coordinating looks the best!

Why do I have to sign a contract and pay a non-refundable retainer fee to book my session?

The contract is simply an agreement of what we expect from each other in the outcome of a photoshoot. The non-refundable retainer fee may be a new concept when you’ve just started looking into hiring a professional photographer, but the practice is standard in the photography industry. Once you’ve obtained a date by paying the retainer fee and signing a contract, the date agreed on can not be given to another client interested in booking at the same time. So why non-refundable? If the retainer fee was refundable, and for some reason a client decides “at the last minute” to request the money back or cancel, then I would have no income for that date and will have missed my opportunity to allow other paying clients the chance to book that date. The only time this if “flexible” is if we need to reschedule due to obvious weather issues. I would refund the fee is if something unforeseen occurs and I cannot carry out the promise to work.

Can I see ALL of the photos that you took at my session?

Yes and No. I will cull all the photos that contain closed eyes, a bad expression, a poor pose, etc.  From there, I will cull those that are duplicate poses, as I will take 3-5 images of the same pose — that allows for closed eyes, wind, birds, or other unforeseen items that may appear in the background since we’re at nature’s mercy.  So from the culls, you will see all the images that are left. They’ll be placed in your online gallery.

When will I be able to view and/or order photos?

Depending upon the time of year (as I do ranch/write and there are deadlines/schedules for those things), you should expect to have your images in 7-10 business days.

Do I HAVE to buy prints from you?

No! But it is recommended. There are so many local chain stores and warehouses out there, with cheap photo printing available,  it makes it easy to print bad (really bad) quality photos. Prints are a representation of my quality of work I want you to have beautiful, professional prints to hang in your home and to share with family and friends.

Can I purchase digital copies or a USB of my images?

Yes. A jump drive with all the images from your session is available for $800, or is FREE with the purchase of a Senior/Family Session, when you spend $250 on prints with me. I understand that in today’s digital age, being able to share with friends and family via Facebook/Email/Instagram is something everyone looks forward to, so I can also provide a jump drive of watermarked, web-sized images (NOT TO BE PRINTED), for an additional $100.00
