I spent my weekend in Rapid City, at the Five States Futurity and Open 4D.
I had a really great time getting to catch up with friends from college, friends from home, and of course, I spent plenty of time with Avie.
Our first run was rocky, but our second run was better. This only make 15 runs on total on him, so I shouldn’t be too hard on myself.
Here’s run #1 (we ran smack in the middle – 105 out of 210 horses):
I went too far up the pen on him, and I’m still not going far enough by the second but I’ve got the third pretty much nailed down I think. So for run #2 I tried to clean up the first and the second, and basically go faster!
Run #2 netted us a check in the 4D, and a 4th place finish in the 3D average.
I did go faster (by 3 tenths) and the first was better, but I’m still behind him as we leave (and I’m in his face for that reason), I’m still going way too wide to barrel #2, and NOT far enough past it either, but the third keeps getting better. If I could ride as forward on those first two as I do on the third, we’d be really cookin’!
I had a great time, as always, with him and cannot wait until our next run!
How did you spend your weekend?
Happy Trails!

I am so happy to see someone blogging about barrel racing and posting their runs! I am new to the blogging world, but I am in college and have been doing small barrel racing around Wisconsin for 9 years now. I raised my own horse and trained her for barrels and these videos make me miss her a bunch!! Both of these runs look beautiful! Congrats on placing, and thanks for sharing!
