Action

December 13, 2010 by ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~ Leave a Comment

When it comes to aspirations, its not about ideas. It’s about making ideas happen. What’s your next step?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this!

I aspire to be so many things.

To do so many things.

I am on a journey called horsemanship.

I am finally an artist (and I’ll have you know I fought being an artist for many years-I even turned down art scholarships). My current creativity outlet is photography, jewelry design and someday, when I have a studio, I’ll pull out the pastels, colored pencils, oil pastels, charcoal, pencils and start drawing again. And God knows I’m in the perfect place for that!

But it does no good to aspire to be something if you don’t work at it. If you don’t take action to get there.

Sometimes the things people aspire to be require a lot of work, and they may think about it, dream about it and take a step or two in the right direction, but they find that it is too hard to get there; or they hit a speed-bump and quit.

Life is just like that- so if you aspire to be something, or do something, just do it! Surround yourself with people who will support you and help you be what you aspire to be. In the meantime realize that anything good worth having in this life is earned. I’ve found that people given things, more often than not, don’t appreciate them the way people who have had to earn those things the hard way do. There’s more personal satisfaction in earning something the hard way- through blood, sweat, tears or even money spent.

In short- the action I’m taking this year to build on my aspirations include riding horses, riding colts, and building my confidence in horsemanship. There will be clinics attended, barrel races attended, lessons given, and DVDs watched all while I soak up all the knowledge I can!

I’ll also be working on some new projects for photography and writing and life will be busy. The good news is, I am able to do these things and while I am able, I should do, do do! And you should too!

What do you aspire to do in 2011? I’d love to know!

Spread the Love!

About ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~

Jenn Zeller is the creative mind and boss lady behind The South Dakota Cowgirl. She is an aspiring horsewoman, photographer, brilliant social media strategist and lover of all things western.

After a brief career in the investment world to support her horse habit (and satisfy her mother, who told her she had to have a “real” job after graduating college), she finally took the leap and stepped away from a regular income; trading the business suit once and for all for cowgirl boots, a hat, and jeans. She has not looked back.

When Jenn first moved to The DX Ranch on the South Dakota plains, she never imagined she’d find herself behind a camera lens capturing an authentic perspective of ranching, and sharing it with others. Jenn has always been called to artistry, and uses music, writing, images, home improvement, and her first true love of horses to express her ranching passion.

Horses are the constant thread and much of her work centers around using her unique style of writing to share her horsemanship journey with others in publications such as CavvySavvy, the AQHA Ranching Blog, the West River Eagle, the family ranch website, and her own website.

Using photography to illustrate her stories has created other opportunities -- Jenn’s brand “The South Dakota Cowgirl” has grown to the level of social media “Influencer”. This notoriety has led to work with Duluth Trading Company, Budweiser, Wyoming Tourism, Vice, Circle Z Ranch and Art of the Cowgirl, to name a few. She also serves as a brand ambassador for Woodchuck USA, Arenus Equine Health, Triple Crown Feed and Just Strong fitness apparel. Her photography has been featured by Instagram, Apple, TIME Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Oprah Magazine. Jenn’s work has been published internationally, has been seen in several books and has graced the covers of several magazines.

Jenn became a social media influencer by accident when she started to explore Instagram as a way to share her life on the ranch with folks that don’t get to experience it. It’s grown into an incredible platform that she uses to empower women, create an environment for self improvement and share life on the ranch.

When she’s not working, she loves to drink coffee, play with her naughty border collie named Copper, start ranch colts, and run about the country chasing cans. Her mother still thinks she doesn’t have a “real” job.
