Well I didn’t really win- but Shuttle and I did get a check that was big enough to cover all our entry fees, diesel and expenses for the weekend and still gave me a couple hundred to go back into the entry fee pot (or I may just go buy a cool new halter for Gumpers- way to rob Shuttle of her earnings!). I guess I shouldn’t ignore the fact that Gumpers won me a check too. All in all it was a successful weekend.
I must admit though, that I am way hard on that mare of mine. I just expect her to be where she was last year before her injury sidelined us, and that’s simply not going to be the case. She’s not made 50 runs yet, and while she has hit the 2d and even run in the 1d, I just can’t expect that of her every time- right now. I must realize where she is today- and take her from there. Work on making each run better than the next and not worry about anything other than that. At least I now that i’m in the Lone Star State, I have a month of sunshine and warm weather to ride in; an arena with good ground and lots of barrel races to go to, so I can continue to work on making her the superstar that I believe she can be.

Congratulations! And it sounds you guys did great, especially of the entry fees and all that was covered. It’s like doing it for free, right?
Enjoy your stay. I miss it already. It is COLD here! Dallas was 83 Saturday, and it’s 44 here right now.
