I don’t have photos yet, but I promise to get some today! My pretty gray mare finally had her baby! He was due May 23 but was born at about 9:50pm last night, May 31. He is by our stud, WDX Nukem and he looks just like him!
Here’s some video!
Another naming contest might be in order…And if I don’t hold a naming contest, I’ll hold one of some sort, just because I can!
Happy Tuesday Trails!

Congratulations! Can’t see too much of how’s he’s put together in this video, but I can tell he’s handsome and he’s a NUKE baby so he’s GOT to be GORGEOUS, right?
I was trying to decide if Nuke is a dun …sorry if his page says one way or the other, but I didn’t have to time to read everything. I couldn’t tell for sure from the photos. One good butt shot but some dorsal countershading can sure mimic a dun stripe. If Nuke is a dun, I think you’re colt is a dun too. I’m seeing tall dark stockings on that boy! He’ll have a 50-50 chance of graying out on you though because of the dam. Do you know what color she was when she was born. (I’m kinda into color genetics in horses, can you tell?)
WHATEVER color he is or turns out to be, he looks like a healthy handsome colt so congratulations!

Thanks! Nuke is a dun and about 80% of his colts are born dun, as was my little guy, and you’ll be able to see that tomorrow in the photos I plan to post. I don’t know what color my mare was when she was born. Sometimes I think she was bay, other times dun, like her colt. You can never go wrong when you breed to Nuke because his colts are so gentle and nice to be around; not to mention trainable. What made this decision for me is that I want another gray horse, and there’s a darn good chance with a dun crossed on gray! This colt is really big, as you’ll see in the photos tomorrow, and as such his legs aren’t even straightened out yet because there’s just too much bone and muscle for him to grow into. I am so excited about him.
