Barrel Racers Through the Vine

December 16, 2013 by ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~ 5 Comments

I don’t know how many of you are on Vine – it’s a Social Media Video Site (for smart phones). And there are some hilarious, hilarious videos. My favorite are those by Corban Livingston, however. You may be a barrel racer if you can relate to any of the below videos! Warning – don’t be eating or drinking while you watch these unless you are prepared to clean your computer monitor…

Since Vine is a looping program, you’ll need to hold your cursor over the video, and then turn the sound on in the top left corner. Be sure you turn it off before you view the next video or well, it’ll be messy.

We have Barrel Racer “Moms”:

There’s Barrel Racing Girlfriends:

Happy Trails!

About ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~

Jenn Zeller is the creative mind and boss lady behind The South Dakota Cowgirl. She is an aspiring horsewoman, photographer, brilliant social media strategist and lover of all things western.

After a brief career in the investment world to support her horse habit (and satisfy her mother, who told her she had to have a “real” job after graduating college), she finally took the leap and stepped away from a regular income; trading the business suit once and for all for cowgirl boots, a hat, and jeans. She has not looked back.

When Jenn first moved to The DX Ranch on the South Dakota plains, she never imagined she’d find herself behind a camera lens capturing an authentic perspective of ranching, and sharing it with others. Jenn has always been called to artistry, and uses music, writing, images, home improvement, and her first true love of horses to express her ranching passion.

Horses are the constant thread and much of her work centers around using her unique style of writing to share her horsemanship journey with others in publications such as CavvySavvy, the AQHA Ranching Blog, the West River Eagle, the family ranch website, and her own website.

Using photography to illustrate her stories has created other opportunities -- Jenn’s brand “The South Dakota Cowgirl” has grown to the level of social media “Influencer”. This notoriety has led to work with Duluth Trading Company, Budweiser, Wyoming Tourism, Vice, Circle Z Ranch and Art of the Cowgirl, to name a few. She also serves as a brand ambassador for Woodchuck USA, Arenus Equine Health, Triple Crown Feed and Just Strong fitness apparel. Her photography has been featured by Instagram, Apple, TIME Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Oprah Magazine. Jenn’s work has been published internationally, has been seen in several books and has graced the covers of several magazines.

Jenn became a social media influencer by accident when she started to explore Instagram as a way to share her life on the ranch with folks that don’t get to experience it. It’s grown into an incredible platform that she uses to empower women, create an environment for self improvement and share life on the ranch.

When she’s not working, she loves to drink coffee, play with her naughty border collie named Copper, start ranch colts, and run about the country chasing cans. Her mother still thinks she doesn’t have a “real” job.

Give your horse or dog, or cat the gift of mobility.

I did. That’s planned for some content this week. Along with a discussion about her jerking his face off in Round #10 b/c she was pissed she’d hit a barrel. Very unprofessional, and uncalled for. It’s never the horse’s fault if a barrel is hit. I know that’s not a common thought in barrel racing circles, but it’s my thought and I will stick to it.

I Only Watched Round 6 On You Tube Because My Friend Told Me About It. Jerking A Horses Face Off Is NEVER Ok IN my Opinion. Light Mouths Make Better Horses! And I Agree…Not The Horses Fault When A Barrel Gets Hit! I Think They Give Up Alot Of Form For Speed…Consistency Apparently Does Not Apply There…All Or Nothing i Reckon.

My Phone Wants To Capitalize Everything…Stupid Phone. Maybe Santa Will Bring Me A New One! 😉

Just a comment I heard from an alley man. Taylor’s horse caught a gear leaving the arena and wouldn’t slow down. He hit the panel at the end, smashing her leg then was going to take off back down the alley. That’s when she jerked on him. He’s a young horse and the pressure at the T&M is unbelievable. Sometimes you have to do something you’d rather not to get control of your mount.

According to her Facebook posts, from what I’ve seen it wasn’t because she was pissed because of hitting a barrel, it was because he was getting dangerously crazy coming out of the pen… I don’t know her personally so I can’t say that it is a legitimate or sincere comment or that it is not, but that’s what I have seen posted elsewhere … 🙂
