Beautifully Different

December 8, 2010 by ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~ 3 Comments

The reverb prompt for today was the following: Beautifully different. Think about what makes you different and
what you do that lights people up. Reflect on all the things that make you different – you’ll find they’re what make you beautiful.

This was a hard one. I think we’re all unique beings- each with our own set of talents, vices and differences.

I’m sure we’ve all met people that at first glance we don’t find to be exceptionally beautiful or good looking- but spend a few moments with them, see their heart and soul, their sense of humor, and often that person that you at first only found to be an average individual begins to shine, sparkle and come to life as an amazing individual. Sort of like the old windmill in the photo- it looks run down and weary, until you realize that it is hard working, honest, and provides much needed water to stock.

That person may even turn into someone that you cannot live without.

I would like to believe I am someone that you can meet and fall in love with, in a friendly sort of way, because I am someone that is full of life, full of fun; someone that is nice to everyone all the time. I try very hard to be that way- to treat everyone equally, love them all the same and treat them all as I’d want to be treated. I see myself as someone that takes life by the tail and does with it what I want to do.

There probably aren’t very many people that love sushi as much as a home-raised ribeye, who have a closet with as many dresses as it has blue jeans and long-sleeved button up shirts; whose favorite accessory is a cowboy hat most days. Possibly there are not many that are just as comfortable walking the strip in Vegas as they are on the back of a horse.

Confidence makes me beautiful. Being myself and letting go of what other people may think of me, makes me beautiful. And the fact that I can rock a pair of Wranglers or some bebe heels, well that doesn’t hurt either!

What makes you uniquely beautiful? I’d love for you to share!

About ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~

Jenn Zeller is the creative mind and boss lady behind The South Dakota Cowgirl. She is an aspiring horsewoman, photographer, brilliant social media strategist and lover of all things western.

After a brief career in the investment world to support her horse habit (and satisfy her mother, who told her she had to have a “real” job after graduating college), she finally took the leap and stepped away from a regular income; trading the business suit once and for all for cowgirl boots, a hat, and jeans. She has not looked back.

When Jenn first moved to The DX Ranch on the South Dakota plains, she never imagined she’d find herself behind a camera lens capturing an authentic perspective of ranching, and sharing it with others. Jenn has always been called to artistry, and uses music, writing, images, home improvement, and her first true love of horses to express her ranching passion.

Horses are the constant thread and much of her work centers around using her unique style of writing to share her horsemanship journey with others in publications such as CavvySavvy, the AQHA Ranching Blog, the West River Eagle, the family ranch website, and her own website.

Using photography to illustrate her stories has created other opportunities -- Jenn’s brand “The South Dakota Cowgirl” has grown to the level of social media “Influencer”. This notoriety has led to work with Duluth Trading Company, Budweiser, Wyoming Tourism, Vice, Circle Z Ranch and Art of the Cowgirl, to name a few. She also serves as a brand ambassador for Woodchuck USA, Arenus Equine Health, Triple Crown Feed and Just Strong fitness apparel. Her photography has been featured by Instagram, Apple, TIME Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Oprah Magazine. Jenn’s work has been published internationally, has been seen in several books and has graced the covers of several magazines.

Jenn became a social media influencer by accident when she started to explore Instagram as a way to share her life on the ranch with folks that don’t get to experience it. It’s grown into an incredible platform that she uses to empower women, create an environment for self improvement and share life on the ranch.

When she’s not working, she loves to drink coffee, play with her naughty border collie named Copper, start ranch colts, and run about the country chasing cans. Her mother still thinks she doesn’t have a “real” job.
