Dally the Dog

September 1, 2015 by ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~ 3 Comments

While we are on a “Dog” Theme this week  (don’t forget to enter my giveaway!), I figured this would be a good time to share the latest addition to our ranch dog pack, Dally.  When Higgins died this winter, we told the Cowboy’s son, Ty, that he could have the next dog and his big sister, found her just a few weeks ago.

Dally is half Australian Shepherd, 1/4 Border Collie and 1/4 Blue Heeler.  She’s full of energy, gets into everything, loves to see the horses run, chase Roanie  the barn cat, and play with the other big dogs. Jake the cow-dog hates her, but he’s also 10 years old and getting crotchety in his old age.  And of course, all Dally wants to do  is play with him!

Isn’t she adorable? She’s so sweet I just want to squeeze her!

Her ears are undecided as to whether or not they will stand up, but she’s got two breeds of dogs in her that do have ears that stand up — the border collie and blue heeler. So we shall see what they decide to do! We think she’s a pretty dang awesome, furry ball of goodness. What is your favorite breed of dog and why? I’d love to hear from you!

About ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~

Jenn Zeller is the creative mind and boss lady behind The South Dakota Cowgirl. She is an aspiring horsewoman, photographer, brilliant social media strategist and lover of all things western.

After a brief career in the investment world to support her horse habit (and satisfy her mother, who told her she had to have a “real” job after graduating college), she finally took the leap and stepped away from a regular income; trading the business suit once and for all for cowgirl boots, a hat, and jeans. She has not looked back.

When Jenn first moved to The DX Ranch on the South Dakota plains, she never imagined she’d find herself behind a camera lens capturing an authentic perspective of ranching, and sharing it with others. Jenn has always been called to artistry, and uses music, writing, images, home improvement, and her first true love of horses to express her ranching passion.

Horses are the constant thread and much of her work centers around using her unique style of writing to share her horsemanship journey with others in publications such as CavvySavvy, the AQHA Ranching Blog, the West River Eagle, the family ranch website, and her own website.

Using photography to illustrate her stories has created other opportunities -- Jenn’s brand “The South Dakota Cowgirl” has grown to the level of social media “Influencer”. This notoriety has led to work with Duluth Trading Company, Budweiser, Wyoming Tourism, Vice, Circle Z Ranch and Art of the Cowgirl, to name a few. She also serves as a brand ambassador for Woodchuck USA, Arenus Equine Health, Triple Crown Feed and Just Strong fitness apparel. Her photography has been featured by Instagram, Apple, TIME Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Oprah Magazine. Jenn’s work has been published internationally, has been seen in several books and has graced the covers of several magazines.

Jenn became a social media influencer by accident when she started to explore Instagram as a way to share her life on the ranch with folks that don’t get to experience it. It’s grown into an incredible platform that she uses to empower women, create an environment for self improvement and share life on the ranch.

When she’s not working, she loves to drink coffee, play with her naughty border collie named Copper, start ranch colts, and run about the country chasing cans. Her mother still thinks she doesn’t have a “real” job.

Give your horse or dog, or cat the gift of mobility.

She is such a cutie pie!
There is “nothing better than a setter” in my opinion. I’ve had 3 Irish Setters and 1 English Setter so far, and they are the best if you like people-oriented dogs. Yes, they have lots of energy when they are young, but all that energy is usually spent outside. Once in the house, they are more or less couch potatoes who thrive when they are shown lots of attention. Oh, and they “roo” when they want to communicate with humans. My late Irish girl and I used to have whole conversations when it was just the two of us girls, and our current English boy roos every morning when we get up and every time he sees us coming into the house from the yard. 🙂
