I don’t braid tails…

June 16, 2007 by Shauna 5 Comments

Ok. So I’ve got a girl that cleans stalls and grooms for me in exchange for lessons.

On Wednesday I asked her, after she got her lesson, if she’d wash tails for me. Washing manes and tails and putting conditioner in them is a great way to keep them from ripping out and helps them grow. Once all the tangles are out I braid them.

So I ask her to wash tails and explain to her what I wanted. Then please braid their tails.

She walks down to where I’m teaching a lesson, and says to me, “Paris’ tail is done, but I don’t braid tails.” I’m like “huh?” She says, I don’t believe in braiding tails. do you still want me to wash and condition Sonora’s? I’m like yes.

Who the hell, at 17, does she think she is to tell me she’s not going to do something? Did I miss something? I mean, I’m glad she’s got convictions, but it’s a tail for crying out loud, and they’re my horses. Was that lost in translation?

Anyway, she and I had a chat about that on Thursday and I think we cleared it up, but would any of you had the gonads, at age 17, to tell someone you work for, that you’re not going to do something?

I am so interested in why she is so convicted about this!

    No- I think I would’ve braided it…

I could see you doing that if it was something you were really convicted about! Although I doubt you would ever be very convicted about something like that!

She evidentially has heard horror stories about horses tearing their tails out because they got them caught on something while they were braided. However, at my facility, there’s really nothing for them to catch on.

    Kristi-
I think you give me more credit than I deserve!

yeah – that is really funny! Maybe she has a serious thing about braiding from her childhood or something…wait – she is still in her damn childhood!
