I Miss Him

January 28, 2010 by ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~ 5 Comments

It was bound to happen, of course.  I’ve been too busy to think about it very much. But today was different. It has been raining since this morning with thunderstorms this afternoon.  It’s coming a downpour as I type. The pastures are flooded, my arena is probably floating away, and it’s turned cooler. I won’t say cold, because, people, after you’ve experienced real cold, 40 degrees doesn’t count.

I know I shouldn’t go here; because I should be having fun and doing what I love, that’s what he’d want. But today I can’t help it. To quote my one of my favorite singers, “Rain on the window makes me lonely”. That’s Miranda Lambert in case any of you didn’t know.  The barrel race for tonight is canceled. And the big barrel race I was considering attending in Oklahoma this weekend has been cancelled. They don’t have lights in that town as of this afternoon.  Ice has apparently knocked out their electricity. Seems like there’s lots of that going around lately!

So right now, I just want to hug him.  And tell him I love him, and thank him for being so good to me.  I realize that I am blessed. I get to do what I want to do, what I love to do everyday. He is the one that gets stuck in the tractor, or worse yet, has to take care of chickens while I am away. It’s not that I haven’t missed you before, but today Zach, today I miss you. XOXO

About ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~

Jenn Zeller is the creative mind and boss lady behind The South Dakota Cowgirl. She is an aspiring horsewoman, photographer, brilliant social media strategist and lover of all things western.

After a brief career in the investment world to support her horse habit (and satisfy her mother, who told her she had to have a “real” job after graduating college), she finally took the leap and stepped away from a regular income; trading the business suit once and for all for cowgirl boots, a hat, and jeans. She has not looked back.

When Jenn first moved to The DX Ranch on the South Dakota plains, she never imagined she’d find herself behind a camera lens capturing an authentic perspective of ranching, and sharing it with others. Jenn has always been called to artistry, and uses music, writing, images, home improvement, and her first true love of horses to express her ranching passion.

Horses are the constant thread and much of her work centers around using her unique style of writing to share her horsemanship journey with others in publications such as CavvySavvy, the AQHA Ranching Blog, the West River Eagle, the family ranch website, and her own website.

Using photography to illustrate her stories has created other opportunities -- Jenn’s brand “The South Dakota Cowgirl” has grown to the level of social media “Influencer”. This notoriety has led to work with Duluth Trading Company, Budweiser, Wyoming Tourism, Vice, Circle Z Ranch and Art of the Cowgirl, to name a few. She also serves as a brand ambassador for Woodchuck USA, Arenus Equine Health, Triple Crown Feed and Just Strong fitness apparel. Her photography has been featured by Instagram, Apple, TIME Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Oprah Magazine. Jenn’s work has been published internationally, has been seen in several books and has graced the covers of several magazines.

Jenn became a social media influencer by accident when she started to explore Instagram as a way to share her life on the ranch with folks that don’t get to experience it. It’s grown into an incredible platform that she uses to empower women, create an environment for self improvement and share life on the ranch.

When she’s not working, she loves to drink coffee, play with her naughty border collie named Copper, start ranch colts, and run about the country chasing cans. Her mother still thinks she doesn’t have a “real” job.

Awww, sweetie, sorry you’re missin’ him so. I’ve been there. The husband and I used to spend a lot of time apart. Some days it just hits you harder than others. I hope you can get outdoors soon to busy yourself. The weather really put a damper on things, huh! ((Hugs))

What a lovely insight into your relationship – and, at the same time, a poignant reflection on how something as unavoidable as the weather can shape the dynamics of emotion and feeling.

I hope that the rain will end soon.

Thank you for your comment on my guest post at IslandRoar. I enjoyed my visit to your blog.

How could you not miss him?
I’m just so happy for you that you have him to miss!
Glad they are doing okay with all that weather.
Thought of them when I saw the news.
