Kelsey had some great runs this weekend. She placed fourth in the youth class on Thursday night in Dupree (where she ran her fastest time so far this summer), and then Friday night at Rapid City she won 6th in the 4D which was good for a $73 check. Needless to say she was absolutely beside herself! Saturday’s run, while it was a tenth slower than Friday earned her the top spot in the youth 2D incentive, and actually she was the only youth to place in the 2D incentive, so she won more than the youth that won the 1D incentive! That check was good for $129 so she was even more excited. Her Sunday run was 2 tenths slower than her Saturday run, but over-all she was very consistent.

Wow! Very nicely done! That horse looks like he loves doing that, too.

LOL
that is absolutely terrific!!! Tell her we're proud of her.
Awww-I so wanted to go run this last weekend. I actually had the Barrel Bash on my schedule…but the kiddo took precedence and I saved the $$ and took her to the 4-H State Show. She did well, so I can't complain.:)
I am like you and like to run my horses in the lightest headgear possible. I just switched Moon to a full gag bit and a lightly adjusted tiedown because he likes to get very front-endy turning the barrel. If I can keep him just broke every so slightly in the poll, he rocks back and sets for his turn much better. I run with a very short rein too. That seems to give me the little extra lift I need to keep Moon's shoulder up and yet keep just a little tension on the outside. Moon would like to be a little bendy coming out of his barrels, so that is how I compensated to keep his turns tight.
Hopefully, we'll see ya around at one of the rodeos soon.:)
Kelsey is on the the barrel racing report….page 14.
