Life can be so short…

May 12, 2007 by admin Leave a Comment

As was evidenced by the passing of a dear friend. He was my age- we graduated high school together. He asked me to senior prom. I already had a date. We were close- we kept in touch past high school- into college- and into married lives. I lost him this week. His wife and family lost him this week.

On Wednesday night, May 9,2007 he was playing flag football. He collapsed on the field and they were unable to restart his heart. It was later discovered that it was enlarged. They didn’t know. He ran a marathon in 2005. He ran cross country in high school. He was active. Young. Athletic.

He had a wonderful wife- she had great taste in men, and dogs- they have a papillon, and I have a papillon. She was kind and helpful. And she had to love fun and interesting intellectual conversation. If you didn’t it wouldn’t work. She helped me plan my wedding last summer as they were married in the USVI on St. Thomas in October of 2005. He had been married a year and a half.

We missed each other Christmas of 2006. He was here in town, and the weather was bad and we didn’t make a connection. I vaguely remember the last time I saw him.

He lived in Virgina, near DC and I don’t know yet if I’ll get to go to the funeral. He will be buried in Texas, but depending on the day I may or may not be able to attend.

I am numb. I can’t imagine how his wife feels.

Spread the Love!
