Riding, Running, Snow!

December 3, 2008 by Shauna 4 Comments

Yesterday it started out really pretty here. Define pretty- you say? Well it was about 45, sunny and without too much breeze. But by 11am it was windy, and had dropped to around 38. And of course, me, who decided I could ride yesterday, was out, saddling Gump. We rode about 3 miles or so- 1 1/2 into the wind, and and 1 and 1/2 back. After grabbing a quick lunch, I was headed out again, to catch Shuttle and Pommel, so Zach’s Niece, Cindy could ride him. We made the same trek, but this time, you could see the weather moving in- and it was really cloudy and had dropped to even colder, probably 34 or so. My lips were so cold I couldn’t feel them by about half-way out on that ride. The way back wasn’t so bad, because we had the wind at our backs. But then, with about 1/3 of the way left to go, the snow started coming down. It’s rare here to have snow come down straight. Because there is almost always wind associated with the snow, it sort of snows sideways. It was about 3pm. Cindy and I made it back to the barn with a lot of snow on us, got the horses unsaddled and turned out, and we headed back into the house. Where I promptly changed, and headed to the treadmill to see what sort of calories I could burn. I figure that my long-trotting across the pasture on two horses burned about 450 and the treadmill, after just over 2 miles said I burned 100. What the fey? But I did it. I ran about 3/4 of a mile. And walked the rest.

I stayed in today. Zach had to go help a neighbor ship calves. I’ll take photos later. It’s a winter wonderland out there folks. It didn’t stop snowing until around 6:30 last night. It is currently 16 degrees outside; feels like 2 degrees and the high for the day is 24 degrees. Tomorrow- it’s supposed to get up to a whopping 18 degrees! There is a chance of snow for the next 2 days. I think I’ll get ready for my Vegas trip today and tomorrow. And I’ll see about staying warm.

Spread the Love!

Thanks for sending the cold. I can share in your cold misery now. It is currently 42 with a wind chill of 36 and should get down to 30 tonight. Thanks alot! You could have at least sent snow with the cold.

Megan’s definitely not the only “wimp” because I loathe the cold. Kudos to you for braving the elements!

That sounds like a GREAT day to me, except for the numb lips of course! And when did you get a tread mill? Here I thought you were still running with the coyotes!

Sounds like a chilly ride! Wish I had snow around here to ride in. Sounds crazy, but there is just something about snow! 😉 Of course, if we got as much as some people, I might be singing a different tune! 😉
Hope you have fun in Vegas! I have been reading about so many blogger friends that are there, I hope to make the trek myself someday!
