Road Trip, Baby!

June 30, 2008 by admin 8 Comments

So I left yesterday morning around 8:45 am and decided I was cowgirl enough to drive all the way straight through to my new residence.

Oklahoma was typical Oklahoma. Kansas was boring as usual, and I noticed that there were very few SUVs on the road in Kansas. More in Oklahoma and Texas. Nebraska was, well, another story.

First of all, I must give credit where credit is due. I’m certainly sure that the good folks of Nebraska are a friendly bunch, as I was frequently waved at, and one kid nearly broke his neck looking at me. But you could count on them to wave if you waved; so long as they were in a truck. And the country-side, at least on their state highways that I took, was covered with pretty hay fields of alfalfa, native grasses, and they were haying, so it smelled lovely; corn and wheat were also growing in abundance. However friendly they are, and however lovely the smells of summer, I must say I was less than impressed with the speed limit on their US Highways- Namely US 81 and US 281 and the fact that before every town you had to slow WAAAAAY down miles before you got there. I thought I’d never get through the God-forsaken state. I had to go 55 -60 the majority of the time. NE-92 was probably the strangest state highway I’ve ever been on. It was considered a “milled-road” since that was what several signs told me, and there were no lines on the road- just yellow painted wanna-be-lines, and the only way you knew whether or not you were free to pass was by reading the signs on the side of the road, since there was no double yellow line.

I could do with never having to drive through Nebraska again, though I realize that as the southern neighbor of South Dakota, I’ll not have that option, but it’s a nice little day dream!

Spread the Love!

I’ve driven through one state like that. West Virginia. Good Lord I swear it takes FOREVER to get anywhere, but the locals? They give a flying crap. They speed, go around those mountain curves at mach speed and scare they ever loving piss right out of me. Di you arrive safely? How long did it take?
