Snowy Days

February 12, 2010 by ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~ 8 Comments

Snow Covered YuccaWell it happened. As I said yesterday- it was snowing. And it snowed. And it snowed. And it snowed some more. All day. It was snowing when I awoke at 6:45am, and was still snowing last night when I went to bed.

This morning I traversed outside to find about a foot of snow on the ground; pretty yes, but now the roads are horrible. I also found a few broken trees- one of the crepe myrtles is finished- and several downed branches, as well as a holly tree that isn’t going to be nearly as beautiful as it was, if it can even be salvaged at all.

I don’t have all the photos published yet, but here’s what I took yesterday.

I was planning to go see my favorite country music singer of all time tonight (Miranda Lambert) but I don’t know if I’ll make it yet or not. Depends on how bad the roads are I guess. I don’t mind the icky roads, but the other drivers here, they scare me. Plus, I woke up with the beginning of a cold. Vitamin C to the rescue!

What do you, my friends, have planned for the weekend? Is the weather nicer where you are than where I am?

About ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~

Jenn Zeller is the creative mind and boss lady behind The South Dakota Cowgirl. She is an aspiring horsewoman, photographer, brilliant social media strategist and lover of all things western.

After a brief career in the investment world to support her horse habit (and satisfy her mother, who told her she had to have a “real” job after graduating college), she finally took the leap and stepped away from a regular income; trading the business suit once and for all for cowgirl boots, a hat, and jeans. She has not looked back.

When Jenn first moved to The DX Ranch on the South Dakota plains, she never imagined she’d find herself behind a camera lens capturing an authentic perspective of ranching, and sharing it with others. Jenn has always been called to artistry, and uses music, writing, images, home improvement, and her first true love of horses to express her ranching passion.

Horses are the constant thread and much of her work centers around using her unique style of writing to share her horsemanship journey with others in publications such as CavvySavvy, the AQHA Ranching Blog, the West River Eagle, the family ranch website, and her own website.

Using photography to illustrate her stories has created other opportunities -- Jenn’s brand “The South Dakota Cowgirl” has grown to the level of social media “Influencer”. This notoriety has led to work with Duluth Trading Company, Budweiser, Wyoming Tourism, Vice, Circle Z Ranch and Art of the Cowgirl, to name a few. She also serves as a brand ambassador for Woodchuck USA, Arenus Equine Health, Triple Crown Feed and Just Strong fitness apparel. Her photography has been featured by Instagram, Apple, TIME Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Oprah Magazine. Jenn’s work has been published internationally, has been seen in several books and has graced the covers of several magazines.

Jenn became a social media influencer by accident when she started to explore Instagram as a way to share her life on the ranch with folks that don’t get to experience it. It’s grown into an incredible platform that she uses to empower women, create an environment for self improvement and share life on the ranch.

When she’s not working, she loves to drink coffee, play with her naughty border collie named Copper, start ranch colts, and run about the country chasing cans. Her mother still thinks she doesn’t have a “real” job.

Hmmm, your krappe weather looks suspiciously like ours up in Ohio. Nothing too much accumulating on the ground, but icky none the less.

Do you guys usually get a lot of snow, or is a foot considered a lot down there?

See this is what I get for fleeing the frozen tundra of South Dakota! I head 1000 miles south to my hometown for some sunshine and dry ground so I can ride and train horses all winter and we end up with the most snow we’ve ever. Yes, it’s a record. Usually there is only two snows per year, and it’s about an inch total.

How ironic, you head south in order to escape that weather to ride and look what happens!

I hear ya! I know Central Texans don’t know how to drive on snow and we just got a dusting! Be safe.

We have absolutely NO plans for this weekend. Or at least that is what I know. Maybe hubby will surprise me.

It’s been rainy here in Los Angeles, and I’ve always said that Southern Californians drive as poorly in the rain as Texans drive in the snow, because for each of us they’re such rarities.

But I hope you ventured out to see Miranda Lambert!
