The above mentioned article talks about how *obesity* can be caused by a virus. A common cold virus at that. It says that it can be to blame for overweight people and could be part of the cause of the obesity epidemic.
Has it ever occurred to these researchers, that people eating fast food, sitting on their asses doing nothing, combined with over-eating could also be contributing factors? And while this may be taboo, African Americans and Hispanics, both are at higher risk of obesity, last I read.
This just goes through me. So a virus does contribute. A virus also contributes to a cold, but how sick you get depends on how healthy you are in the first place! What these researchers also don’t understand is how perfectly fit people are carrying the virus. I think I could hypothesize an answer: They take better care of themselves! Could it be that they work out? Could it be that they eat right? Could it be that they don’t over-eat?
I think that our society is so wrapped up in instant gratification and quick fixes that they’ll look to/for anything that will explain away bad behavior, or bad habits, and look to someone who can fix it and say, “It’s not really your fault”.
I suppose that makes people feel better.

Hmmmm….I like that one, I’ll have to use it sometime. “I’m not fat, I just have a virus!”
