The Orphan George, Dolce and a Prairie Fire…

July 11, 2008 by Shauna 1 Comment

to start with. I am so freakin’ busy up here. It’s no wonder Zach needed a helper! There’s so much to do!

We are halter breaking all the one, two and three year old stud colts as we have the vet coming out next Friday for a mass castration party. Should be fun. We’ll save some of the smaller two year olds and yearlings for our own private cowboy-style castration party and I’ll learn how to do it. I’m freakin’ stoked about it.

Gorgeous George is doing great; drinking milk out of a bucket, eating grain and hay and he and Dolce are getting to be friends. They are going to be our “barn rats”- sort of like the coach’s kid that can’t help but know how to play football because they’re always around it. We had our first halter lesson with both of them today. They are so cute. Maybe if we have time this weekend, we can film them leading and getting soft on the end of that lead rope. Nora isn’t exactly excited about George tagging along everywhere, but as long as there isn’t grain involved, she at least tolerates him otherwise The Dragon appears. Dolce and he were in and out of the barn watching us play with those colts that we were halter breaking today.

I’m back to riding Nora and Dolce freakin’ loves the arena. She runs and bucks and kicks up her heels. She’s Shuttle in training!!!! Speaking of the Bug, she gets to go see Dr. Howell tomorrow and will stay with him for a week. Then off to Jill and I’ll get to, hopefully pick her up later this summer! Yay! She’s doing good and moving around well.

We also had to go fight a fire in a pasture today. This was my first prairie fire. It somehow started when something in the mower sparked, or something like that. I’m not altogether sure how these things happen, but apparently they do. They were haying in this field. About 15 acres burned and that equates to roughly 20 tons of hay.

As busy as I am I cried tears of joy more than once today, because I’m living the life I always wanted and never thought I’d have.

Spread the Love!
