Thursday Thanks

November 5, 2015 by ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~ 1 Comment

I try to always make November a month dedicated to gratitude. After all, I have an enormous amount of things I should be thankful for.  In years past, I’ve done 30 days of thanks, or at least one post where I will list the things I’m thankful for. This year, I’m going to give thanks on Thursdays because it seems catchy. That’s the only reason. I hope you’ll join me, and be sure to share with a comment why you’re blessed or thankful.

So without further ado:

I’m grateful for art.

I know it sounds petty, but the way I see the world through a camera lens has provided me with more opportunities that I would have ever thought possible.  I’ve been published in books, magazines, internationally, nationally, and even made the Huffington Post. I am continually honored that people think what I do has meaning, because really I only do it to share my life with others. That others can take away something positive from what I’m sharing, even better.

I’m thankful for the ability to see the world in a positive, instead of negative light.

We are constantly bombarded with negativity. People will always let you down and tell you you’re not good enough, smart enough, whatever enough. I’ve learned to ignore the drama of others, and just focus on being me. After all, that is all any of us can do — be the best person we know how to be. I’m fortunate to be surrounded by people who help in that endeavor. And we’re taking on the challenge of helping the rest of the world learn to do that too!  Mind you, I’ve had help getting to this place, so when I find myself troubled I am fortunate enough to have someone around to help me find my way back into the positive side of things. We have to remind ourselves that things could always be worse.

What are you thankful for right now?

Spread the Love!

About ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~

Jenn Zeller is the creative mind and boss lady behind The South Dakota Cowgirl. She is an aspiring horsewoman, photographer, brilliant social media strategist and lover of all things western.

After a brief career in the investment world to support her horse habit (and satisfy her mother, who told her she had to have a “real” job after graduating college), she finally took the leap and stepped away from a regular income; trading the business suit once and for all for cowgirl boots, a hat, and jeans. She has not looked back.

When Jenn first moved to The DX Ranch on the South Dakota plains, she never imagined she’d find herself behind a camera lens capturing an authentic perspective of ranching, and sharing it with others. Jenn has always been called to artistry, and uses music, writing, images, home improvement, and her first true love of horses to express her ranching passion.

Horses are the constant thread and much of her work centers around using her unique style of writing to share her horsemanship journey with others in publications such as CavvySavvy, the AQHA Ranching Blog, the West River Eagle, the family ranch website, and her own website.

Using photography to illustrate her stories has created other opportunities -- Jenn’s brand “The South Dakota Cowgirl” has grown to the level of social media “Influencer”. This notoriety has led to work with Duluth Trading Company, Budweiser, Wyoming Tourism, Vice, Circle Z Ranch and Art of the Cowgirl, to name a few. She also serves as a brand ambassador for Woodchuck USA, Arenus Equine Health, Triple Crown Feed and Just Strong fitness apparel. Her photography has been featured by Instagram, Apple, TIME Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Oprah Magazine. Jenn’s work has been published internationally, has been seen in several books and has graced the covers of several magazines.

Jenn became a social media influencer by accident when she started to explore Instagram as a way to share her life on the ranch with folks that don’t get to experience it. It’s grown into an incredible platform that she uses to empower women, create an environment for self improvement and share life on the ranch.

When she’s not working, she loves to drink coffee, play with her naughty border collie named Copper, start ranch colts, and run about the country chasing cans. Her mother still thinks she doesn’t have a “real” job.

Give your horse or dog, or cat the gift of mobility.

It’s nice to see a thankful post in the mix of all these holiday gift guides (which are coming out way too early)! I’m thankful for good health, happiness and wonderful opportunities. I may not have everything I want in life or be where I want right now, but I am thankful for the adventure it brings.
