United States Postal (Dis)Service

October 11, 2007 by Shauna 1 Comment

I hate the USPS. Dislike them. Bastards. Incompetent idiots. This is what happens when you have the government (which is usually inefficient at best) involved in local parcel delivery.

If you’ve ever shipped something lately with UPS or Fed Ex, you know that tracking information is updated nearly by the minute- or at least through each facility, and on to each truck or airplane. You can practically track the package on the trip that it takes.

But NOOOOOOOOO. Not with the damn postal service. Not possible. We pay .41 cents to ship an envelope and God only knows what their other rates are and their systems don’t do these things?

It’s the difference in market based (private sector)which knows that they MUST provide service or they have no business versus the we-don’t-give-a-damn-government sector which we must use to mail basic things. I hate it.

And in case anyone is wondering: I purchased a new (to me) saddle on Ebay. The woman shipped it via the postal service. It was checked in, to her post office on October 9th at 1:11pm. They are *supposed* to update information nightly (if available- they add as a disclaimer). It’s now 10/11 and there are NO updates. Is it still sitting in the post office? Has it moved? Do they care that I NEED what’s in that package?

I’m thinking that they don’t care. I suppose I should add that Kyle, TX is the middle of nowhere Hill Country so she probably had no choice but to use them.

Oh, and did you know that it’s okay for them to hold your mail, even if they know you need it (and you’ve not asked for it to be held) and their incompetence can’t get it to you, but if I were to hold someone else’s mail it’s a crime? Oh, yes. I can blog about all that later.

Right now, I’m going to stop going on before I throw something.

Spread the Love!
