What’s your Inner SuperHero?

September 13, 2013 by ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~ Leave a Comment

Many of you have probably noticed that I’ve been slacking in the “confession” department.

I’ve slacked because this summer has been a whirlwind of ranch work, the barn project (which, frankly, is a workout and also takes a lot of time), travel and otherwise no semblance of a “normal” schedule. I’ve done some running as time permitted, but honestly, and many of you can relate, when you live where you work it’s much harder to have a schedule because the cows might find an “open” gate, the horses might rub one open, or the neighbor might call because they need you to come help them.

Fall brings my favorite season, and a lot of work with it – preconditioning of calves, gathering bulls, shipping calves, and finally, pregnancy testing the cows. But I’ve decided now that the kids are back in school, this is a great time for me to get back into some sort of routine.

I’ve also decided that as much as I love my x-box kinect and the wii, I’m going to do something different that doesn’t require me be inside (if I can help it), the last few weeks of great weather. Theoretically the snow could fly any day now!

So I found these awesome workouts called “Superhero Sprints“.

You may be thinking, “Uh more running”? but it’s not. I mean it is. But it’s not. It’s about “sprinting” through a workout. Giving it 150% for a short period of time. The workouts are called an ISMT workout or: Interval Sprint Metabolic Training. I loved interval training when I ran track in high school. In fact, I looked forward to those days so I figured why not give it a try again?

I started the workout Tuesday this week, which means I have already done another one Thursday and I’ll do one Saturday. It’s designed to be an every-other day workout, and after a couple weeks of working out, you can add actual running sprints to your “off” days. I plan to make those my “ground work” days and handle 4-5 colts. Trust me, ground work is a workout in and of itself.

But to begin, let’s start with a stupid weigh in and measurements:

143lbs

waist: 31.5″

hips: 41″

thighs: 25″

biceps: 14″

This workout is set up to be a 6 week challenge, so while I’ll try to update on my progress, I don’t think that I’ll take measurements for a couple weeks at least!

I can do this. #strongisthenewsexy

Happy Trails!

About ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~

Jenn Zeller is the creative mind and boss lady behind The South Dakota Cowgirl. She is an aspiring horsewoman, photographer, brilliant social media strategist and lover of all things western.

After a brief career in the investment world to support her horse habit (and satisfy her mother, who told her she had to have a “real” job after graduating college), she finally took the leap and stepped away from a regular income; trading the business suit once and for all for cowgirl boots, a hat, and jeans. She has not looked back.

When Jenn first moved to The DX Ranch on the South Dakota plains, she never imagined she’d find herself behind a camera lens capturing an authentic perspective of ranching, and sharing it with others. Jenn has always been called to artistry, and uses music, writing, images, home improvement, and her first true love of horses to express her ranching passion.

Horses are the constant thread and much of her work centers around using her unique style of writing to share her horsemanship journey with others in publications such as CavvySavvy, the AQHA Ranching Blog, the West River Eagle, the family ranch website, and her own website.

Using photography to illustrate her stories has created other opportunities -- Jenn’s brand “The South Dakota Cowgirl” has grown to the level of social media “Influencer”. This notoriety has led to work with Duluth Trading Company, Budweiser, Wyoming Tourism, Vice, Circle Z Ranch and Art of the Cowgirl, to name a few. She also serves as a brand ambassador for Woodchuck USA, Arenus Equine Health, Triple Crown Feed and Just Strong fitness apparel. Her photography has been featured by Instagram, Apple, TIME Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Oprah Magazine. Jenn’s work has been published internationally, has been seen in several books and has graced the covers of several magazines.

Jenn became a social media influencer by accident when she started to explore Instagram as a way to share her life on the ranch with folks that don’t get to experience it. It’s grown into an incredible platform that she uses to empower women, create an environment for self improvement and share life on the ranch.

When she’s not working, she loves to drink coffee, play with her naughty border collie named Copper, start ranch colts, and run about the country chasing cans. Her mother still thinks she doesn’t have a “real” job.
