I know, I’ve been absent a lot from my little home on the web. I’ve been to many places and done many things this year! I’m hoping to catch everyone up on the action this fall. Avie should get his shoes pulled next week and we’ll be home, for a couple months anyway!
We drove to Texas in the middle of October to attend the WPRA World Finals. They held a permit holder only run, for those of us girls who’re still competing on our permits. My goal was to make the short round — which meant I’d have to be in the top 30 on two runs. They figure this by taking the aggregate time — so the fastest 30 times of both the first round and the second round combined.
Friday’s run was clean, but I didn’t really ride very aggressively. I sort of let Avie cruise to a time of 16.4 seconds and was way off the pace. I also, got in his way on the back side of the first because I was behind. It did win us a check in the open 5D though! So that’s nice.
Saturday I knew I had to do better and we stepped up to the plate:
That run was still not quite enough. We finished 35th in the average, and didn’t make it back to the short by .222 of a second. I could have been disappointed, but I’m not. I was glad to have two clean runs, and felt like I made some progress in riding my horse.
Saturday this week we have our first rodeo of the 2018 season — and should be getting 1-3 inches of snow on Friday! That’s going to make for an extra fun travel day, but you know what, if you want to do something bad enough you’ll find a way!
Until next time — Happy Trails!
I love this last photo of you two! It sounds like you guys have made wonderful progress and it was a great trip. I would have been happy with those runs too.
