Christmas With the Kids

December 31, 2009 by ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~ 7 Comments

We finally got to have Christmas with the kids last night. Had the blizzard not gotten in the way, we’d have been able to do it Christmas Night, but Mother Nature, often has her own ideas for how things should go and sometimes they don’t jive with what we’d like to have done.

There was laughter:

Zach ended up on the semi-clean kitchen floor:

And there were tears:

Kelsey and Ty gave me the framed print of Bam Bam and I’m really glad they did. She and Ty hooked their dad up with a framed print from his favorite day of the year, our Branding, and they gave us a Minnesota Vikings tin of Popcorn, as well as framed black and white school photos, which I like better than the color ones that we already had, courtesy of their mom. Kels also blessed me with a custom halter she had made in Vegas, and she gave her dad one too; but it’s not custom and didn’t get photographed.

Ty got a super cool pair of boots that we picked up Vegas, and some new xbox game that he wanted. Of course I wasn’t paying attention and the camera wasn’t ready for the amazing expression on his face when he realized what it was. It might be Call of Duty. We also got him a table-top roping dummy that was the highlight of the night, entertainment wise. Kelsey’s big gift didn’t get here yet, and she doesn’t know what it is, so I can’t tell you , but she did have her stocking stuffed and got the full series (to date) of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”.

Here are a few of the photos from the evening, and all the fun that was had! Don’t forget to look at the bottom left of the photo-there is commentary to be seen there! I realize too that my house is messy. We live in this house. In fact, the table was barely cleaned off from dinner, when the roping dummy made it’s debut there. So please, pardon the mess. The Zebra print chair isn’t supposed to be a coat rack either.

I hope that everyone has a safe and happy NYE celebration. We plan to break out the guitars, and the booze, stay in and hang with the kids, and the siblings that are here (Bud and his wife, Kirsten; Guthrie and the cousin, Danial). Should be a fun time. I’ll see if I can manage photos of tonight too. Be safe everyone!

Much Love-

About ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~

Jenn Zeller is the creative mind and boss lady behind The South Dakota Cowgirl. She is an aspiring horsewoman, photographer, brilliant social media strategist and lover of all things western.

After a brief career in the investment world to support her horse habit (and satisfy her mother, who told her she had to have a “real” job after graduating college), she finally took the leap and stepped away from a regular income; trading the business suit once and for all for cowgirl boots, a hat, and jeans. She has not looked back.

When Jenn first moved to The DX Ranch on the South Dakota plains, she never imagined she’d find herself behind a camera lens capturing an authentic perspective of ranching, and sharing it with others. Jenn has always been called to artistry, and uses music, writing, images, home improvement, and her first true love of horses to express her ranching passion.

Horses are the constant thread and much of her work centers around using her unique style of writing to share her horsemanship journey with others in publications such as CavvySavvy, the AQHA Ranching Blog, the West River Eagle, the family ranch website, and her own website.

Using photography to illustrate her stories has created other opportunities -- Jenn’s brand “The South Dakota Cowgirl” has grown to the level of social media “Influencer”. This notoriety has led to work with Duluth Trading Company, Budweiser, Wyoming Tourism, Vice, Circle Z Ranch and Art of the Cowgirl, to name a few. She also serves as a brand ambassador for Woodchuck USA, Arenus Equine Health, Triple Crown Feed and Just Strong fitness apparel. Her photography has been featured by Instagram, Apple, TIME Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Oprah Magazine. Jenn’s work has been published internationally, has been seen in several books and has graced the covers of several magazines.

Jenn became a social media influencer by accident when she started to explore Instagram as a way to share her life on the ranch with folks that don’t get to experience it. It’s grown into an incredible platform that she uses to empower women, create an environment for self improvement and share life on the ranch.

When she’s not working, she loves to drink coffee, play with her naughty border collie named Copper, start ranch colts, and run about the country chasing cans. Her mother still thinks she doesn’t have a “real” job.

Give your horse or dog, or cat the gift of mobility.

The worst part of Christmas for me is waiting to give the gifts I got for everyone … so I bet it sucks to wait for Kelsey’s big gift (for you!). I ordered custom spurs for my bf in October, and waiting till Christmas to give them to him almost killed me LOL

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

      Thea-

I can’t hardly keep a secret. Zach knew what all his gifts were before Christmas. Well all but one. I get so excited. Kelsey’s gift was a handmade Garcia bit. Who wouldn’t want one of them!
