New Year’s Eve

January 2, 2010 by ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~ 7 Comments

We stayed in this year for New Year’s Eve. It’s the easiest thing to do when you’re out in the middle of nowhere; plus we had the kids, and it’s more fun to enjoy it with them. Besides that it’s been super duper cold and who wants to go somewhere when the temps are below zero? Certainly not me. Nope. Not. Me. Not. Gonna. Do. It.

The moon was gorgeous that night:

The sunset was pretty:

As the sun set, the moon got higher and brighter:

We headed down the hill to hang out with Zach’s youngest brother, Bud and his wife, Kirsten in their new house.

Our evening consisted of the kids, Ty and Julissa (Guth’s daughter) wrestling with Uncle Bud:

There was a new flavor tried:

Kelsey’s guitar was re-strung by Uncle Guth, while she watched:

The Ty and Juju played Ty’s new card game:

Then we played guitars. We’re big time cheaters. Bud hooks the laptop up to his super fly Sony Flat Screen, so we can cheat and see the chords we should all play.

Needless to say, we had a lot of fun ringing in 2010! What did y’all do to ring in the new year?

About ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~

Jenn Zeller is the creative mind and boss lady behind The South Dakota Cowgirl. She is an aspiring horsewoman, photographer, brilliant social media strategist and lover of all things western.

After a brief career in the investment world to support her horse habit (and satisfy her mother, who told her she had to have a “real” job after graduating college), she finally took the leap and stepped away from a regular income; trading the business suit once and for all for cowgirl boots, a hat, and jeans. She has not looked back.

When Jenn first moved to The DX Ranch on the South Dakota plains, she never imagined she’d find herself behind a camera lens capturing an authentic perspective of ranching, and sharing it with others. Jenn has always been called to artistry, and uses music, writing, images, home improvement, and her first true love of horses to express her ranching passion.

Horses are the constant thread and much of her work centers around using her unique style of writing to share her horsemanship journey with others in publications such as CavvySavvy, the AQHA Ranching Blog, the West River Eagle, the family ranch website, and her own website.

Using photography to illustrate her stories has created other opportunities -- Jenn’s brand “The South Dakota Cowgirl” has grown to the level of social media “Influencer”. This notoriety has led to work with Duluth Trading Company, Budweiser, Wyoming Tourism, Vice, Circle Z Ranch and Art of the Cowgirl, to name a few. She also serves as a brand ambassador for Woodchuck USA, Arenus Equine Health, Triple Crown Feed and Just Strong fitness apparel. Her photography has been featured by Instagram, Apple, TIME Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Oprah Magazine. Jenn’s work has been published internationally, has been seen in several books and has graced the covers of several magazines.

Jenn became a social media influencer by accident when she started to explore Instagram as a way to share her life on the ranch with folks that don’t get to experience it. It’s grown into an incredible platform that she uses to empower women, create an environment for self improvement and share life on the ranch.

When she’s not working, she loves to drink coffee, play with her naughty border collie named Copper, start ranch colts, and run about the country chasing cans. Her mother still thinks she doesn’t have a “real” job.

I watched the inside of my eyelids!! In other words, I was sleeping. It has been hectic around here with visiting relatives from out of state and I was very tired…Happy New Year and stay warm. It’s cold here in the south now too. This morning was 22 degrees with wind chill in the lower teens. Buuurrrrrr…. Take care

I myself am not a Boone’s Farm kinda girl. It’s too sweet for me. But Kirsten loves it, and we picked that flavor when we went shopping this week. I tried it, but I much prefer vodka soda with lime. 🙂 but you’re right, – that and SoCo were what my friends in college loved.

Looks like you all had a blast. I was alone. It was quiet, but okay. Posting about it tomorrow.
Love those moon shots; it was too cloudy here to see much. Those are the best I’ve seen!

Those moon pictures are amazing! I’m afraid it’s hard to get a good shot of the sky here in Los Angeles cause of the buildings and streetlights and…police helicopters.

And man, Boone’s Farm! Haven’t had that since high school.

I agree with Maureen, those are the best pics of the New Years eve moon, I have seen.

Oh…the good old days of Boone Farm!
