Old Man Winter Strikes Again!

October 29, 2009 by Shauna 4 Comments

Pumpkin

Old man winter has reared his ugly, bearded head. Again . As I write this there is snow swirling around outside. Does anyone else pictured Gandolf or Dumbledore when they think of Old Man Winter, or is it just me?

Monday was a sunny and a pretty day. It was cooler- about 45 but it was a warm cool- I know this because I ran around in a fleece pull-over with a long sleeved tee underneath and I was just darn near perfect. That pretty day gave the black, gumbo, mud a chance to dry out; so much so that the neighbors decided they were going to wean and ship their calves on Tuesday. So Zach went to one neighbor’s place and I to the other.

We had planned to sort our steer pairs from the rest of the herd on Wednesday, as those are the calves we sold via video auction this summer. But when we awoke on Wednesday morning, it was raining, so there was no way we were sorting. And in addition to the rain, I was sick as a dog. Something I ate on Tuesday severely disagreed with me and had me up most of the evening and through night, praying to the porcelain god.
This morning I could hear freezing rain coming down, which slowly changed to snow at around 9:30am. The weather channel says we are under a Winter Storm Watch. And they are forecasting snow all day today, most of the night, with a 40% chance of snow tomorrow.
On the plus side, I have a warm house, and feel almost 100% and I don’t have to go outside if I don’t want to! Mom sent over a huge box of herb teas; I have the internet, and satellite TV with more channels than I could ever watch! Oh and let’s don’t forget the love of a super hawt cowboy! So bring it Old Man Winter- you’re not getting my spirits down!

P.S. But Old Man Winter, it would be great if you’d go away next week so we really can get our calves sold and out of here. Kthanx!

Spread the Love!

    Gandalf – definitely Gandalf.

Ugh, I am SO not looking forward to the deep cold and snow of winter. I guess I just lived in the South for too long.

You must be getting what we got yesterday! I am in southern Sask. Canada. We got about 6 inches of very heavy wet snow dumped on us. I could see the cows on top of the hill begging to come home! I agree it needs to lay off so we can get these darn calves weaned and shipped!

    I'm with Jan: Gandalf.
You make it sound like such a nice cozy snow day, but it IS a little early…

Oh, I like those warm cozy days in the house with the hubby to snuggle with! But I so understand needing the weather to cooperate with ya. We need the rain to stop so we can get into our pasture. Glad you're feelin' better!
