I mentioned a few weeks ago on Facebook that I’d taken some STUNNING photos, and I do mean stunning! Stunning enough that my parents, who’ve been here several times, gasped when they saw them. I also said that those photos wouldn’t be seen until the book is released. And I will make good on that for most of them. But the suspense was about to kill me and no one wants a keeled-over South Dakota Cowgirl, so I decided I’d share one of them. I’m not sure this is my absolute favorite of the photos, but I must say, it’s close.
Here’s how this is going to work:
I’m going to give away an 11×28 canvas wrapped print of the photo below.
I will sign it and number it 1/150. Once the contest is over, it will then be made available for purchase in case you missed out and want it! Once those 150 are gone, you’ll be up a creek without a paddle if you didn’t get in on it before they’re gone! Or you’ll have to wait until the book is released to own it, and those that accompany it.
With this particular canvas wrap, you can frame it or hang it, as is.
Now without further ado- here’s the image:
In case anyone is interested- the butte in the background is called Scatter Butte. It’s one of the ways we can tell how hard it’s snowing come winter, because it can be seen for miles and miles on a clear day. It’s a good 3 miles away from the house. The horses in the foreground are some of our ranch horses, enjoying the life every horse dreams he could have.
Here’s how you enter:
1. Leave a comment (or comments) on this post.
2. Tweet me @thesdcowgirl and use the #SDCowgirl hashtag. That will get you entries. I’d love to count RTs, but I am not always notified of those, so while Re-Tweeting is great, it won’t get you additional entries.
3. Tell your friends to “Like” The South Dakota Cowgirl on Facebook, and to leave me a comment telling me who sent them and you’ll both get an entry.
Since this is a “big” giveaway- probably my biggest ever, I’m going to leave the contest open for a week. Entries will close at Noon on Friday, September 2 and I’ll announce a winner sometime the week of the 5th.
Now, go have yourself a super Monday and don’t forget to enter as many times as you like!
Happy Trails!

I’m moving next weekend and that print would look lovely in our living room! 🙂
So, this showed up on my blog reader a day early it looks like. If that comment didn’t count, here’s another to solidify my entry! lol
Glad you got the post fixed. I didn’t want to miss out on an opportunity to win one of your great photos!!
Love your work and this print is exquisite!
Love your photography…its beautiful
We are building a new house on the ranch and this print would look fantastic with all of my Tim Cox prints!!!!
Great Picture! I spent some time working in South Dakota. It is a beautiful place. Horses, Hills, Grass, and Cattle.
Gotta love horses, hills, grass and cattle!
Great picture! I was just out that way a couple of weeks ago and it is gorgeous. I’m so glad I moved out here from the east coast. Funny thing, I kept driving past signs for Scatter Butte but my brain kept insisting on reading it as Scuttle Butt. Don’t know why 🙂
This particular Butte that we call Scatter Butte, is on The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation. I wonder if there is another SB in the Black Hills…Hmmm…
As always, STUNNING! I’m ready to move there and be your understudy…studying horses and cowboys of course!! 😉
Lol!
That print is beautiful. I know exactly where I would hang it!! We were in South Dakota earlier this summer, lovely country. We camped with our horses over by Custer and the riding was amazing. Other then the winters I can understand why you live there!
You know, you can camp with your horses right here at this very ranch!
That would be an even more fun place to camp! We have a small group that goes somewhere every year, we’ll have to discuss this new option!
I do believe I need this print!
Oh! And I just spent a little over a week in the San Antonio area. I was amazed at how dry it is there but Texas is pretty wonderful too. I love that nearly every house has a huge gated entry with a ranch name.
I grew up in TX and love SA!
Beautiful photo and great horses. It is so nice to see that lush green grass.

I have little doubt that this book will be marvelous.

What a breathtaking photo! Your horses are just beautiful! I would love to win this photo and get to look at it every day. And the green grass would go great with my green walls! We built a new little house 2 yrs ago and most of my walls are still bare as I am not a good decorator and I’m afraid to makes holes in the wall unless it’s for something good. This photo is totally hole in my wall worthy!!!! Thanks for the opportunity :o)
Green Walls are awesome!

I was just chatting with a friend from Nebraska last night about how it looked like heaven had just touched a large part of South Dakota going into September. He couldn’t believe it and sure didn’t want to come back to drought stricken West Texas. Great shot I can’t wait to see the book!

By the way when is your book being published? I think I’ll have to get it. You have got some mad skills girl!
My book should be released in summer of 2012. I had some more shots I wanted to get before I sent it off to the publisher. I’ll be taking pre-orders in Jan/February. Those will all be autographed copies, and may even include a CD of my original music.
Um Jenn . . . I NEEEEEED this photo for my bedroom!
Like I really NEEEEEEED it!
Does adding all of those extra E’s impress upon you the importance of me having this photograph?
It totally does impress upon me the importance. 🙂 Thanks for stopping over, Ve!
I want your life….and your picture!
Jenn,
Sittin in my hospital room looking at this photo, I can feel the breeze gently blow around me. I can smell the warm grasses in the foreground while imagining the aroma of the river in the background. With one final thought the serenity from this photo envelopes my every fiber and takes me “home”.
I’m so glad it can do that, Bron. I hope you feel better soon. And be sure to come visit when you’re able! *hugs*
City Girl is absolutely slain over Scatter Butte portrait. God never ceases to surprise me with is Love!

Stunning is the word! Would love it for my room
Beautiful photo! I am currently deciding which photos of mine I want to get on canvas but love the panoramic view of this one.
Gorgeous Gorgeous Gorgeous!!! You are so talented and God has given you such a wonderful canvas there…
Hey Jenn, this pic is just so awesome, as usual. You are one multi-talented lady and it is a pleasure to know you. Cannot wait for the book to come out. You bring to life our beautiful prairie and this one makes me long for those days of riding horses with my Dad all day long and just being a country girl. 😉
This would look great in my living room!
This picture brightens my day. It hasn’t been a very good day so far, and i looked at this again and feel better! Its absolutely gorgeous!
Just stopped by to see the picture again and envision in my head how lovely that will look hanging in my living room! 🙂
Stunning. Love your Photos!
Hoping, hoping, hoping…and if not, where are is your book going to be available? Got to have something to look at when I get homesick for the SD Prairie!! This stinking heat in Texas is killing me.
Tȟašúŋka Sápa Wíŋ (Her Horse Is Black Woman), I don’t know how much you know about the Lakȟóta ceremony of Vision Questing, but it is very difficult thing to do. Men or women participating in this ceremony spend two to four days and night on a butte, where they fast from food and water and pray for a vision from the creator. This is done during the summer months so you can see what kinds of weather conditions they might have to endure. I myself have sat on Scatter Butte several different times. I remember one time when we had eighty mile an hour straight line winds, they were so strong that electrical transmission lines were blown over. The physical beauty of this butte is matched only by it spiritual beauty. While setting on this butte I was visited by members of the; horse, coyote, eagle, bird, deer, and insect nations. They have all help me to find balance in my life and I would recommend this ceremony for anyone, Indian or non-Indian alike.
Although Imissed the contest I am truly amazed with this picture! It portrays such elegance and serentity. I rode in the Decorah clinic also and I wish I would have known about your website before I went. Would have loved to have visited with you about your horses and photos. Wish I would have gotten a chance to meet everyone that was at that clinic. Keep up the good work!
