2017 New Year’s Resolutions

January 16, 2017 by ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~ 5 Comments

A new year.  A fresh start.  A chance to make positive change!  Every new year gives me the chance to set goals for me for things I’ve been meaning to change, but, like everything, life happens and those goals don’t always get accomplished.  But this year, even that’s gonna change! A top tip for reaching goals is finding accountability, so I’m relying on y’all to keep me on track! Plus, I have Molly!

  1. I plan to continue writing for Cavvy Savvy and Ag Week. Ideally I’d love to get some additional freelance jobs as well. I’ve got my eye on Western Horseman or the AQHA Journal! Those may be pretty long-term goals, but may be someday I’ll get there!
  2. I’ll be riding with Buck again in Rapid City in May.  I really hope to do better this year at keeping you all apprised of my horsemanship progress. This may come in the form of live feed videos through Instagram, or more colt cam videos! But please don’t hesitate to ask!
  3. We will be adding a monthly “Small business feature”, in which we will showcase one of our favorite shops (complete with discount codes!), and follow up with a giveaway for gift cards or products that they offer. I’m very excited about this feature, because I feel like small businesses are the backbone of our communities, so we should patronize them as much as possible! And of course, I love boutiques so it only makes sense that I’d share all my loves with all of you!
  4. I want to write more on this blog and share more about my life here, so I hope I can make good on a once/week post about the goings on here.
  5. Foto Friday will be consistent this year, as I plan write/share one photography tutorial/month. I may be spending my weekends for a while, getting those planned, and written, but I hope you find them beneficial!
  6. One of my goals for this year is to add more products to the gift shop! I’m planning on adding pillow covers, couch throws, mugs, shower curtains and I’m planning to add a signature jewelry line. Are there any products you’d like to see? 2017 goals, gift card7. And finally, I’m working on offering a Subscription Service! I’d love to be able to let you download images for personal use, and gain access to exclusive content and discounts! Eventually the service will include textiles and stationary, but for now, we’ll begin with digital content!

I hope everyone’s 2017 is off to a great start! I know mine is!

Happy Trails!

About ~The South Dakota Cowgirl~

Jenn Zeller is the creative mind and boss lady behind The South Dakota Cowgirl. She is an aspiring horsewoman, photographer, brilliant social media strategist and lover of all things western.

After a brief career in the investment world to support her horse habit (and satisfy her mother, who told her she had to have a “real” job after graduating college), she finally took the leap and stepped away from a regular income; trading the business suit once and for all for cowgirl boots, a hat, and jeans. She has not looked back.

When Jenn first moved to The DX Ranch on the South Dakota plains, she never imagined she’d find herself behind a camera lens capturing an authentic perspective of ranching, and sharing it with others. Jenn has always been called to artistry, and uses music, writing, images, home improvement, and her first true love of horses to express her ranching passion.

Horses are the constant thread and much of her work centers around using her unique style of writing to share her horsemanship journey with others in publications such as CavvySavvy, the AQHA Ranching Blog, the West River Eagle, the family ranch website, and her own website.

Using photography to illustrate her stories has created other opportunities -- Jenn’s brand “The South Dakota Cowgirl” has grown to the level of social media “Influencer”. This notoriety has led to work with Duluth Trading Company, Budweiser, Wyoming Tourism, Vice, Circle Z Ranch and Art of the Cowgirl, to name a few. She also serves as a brand ambassador for Woodchuck USA, Arenus Equine Health, Triple Crown Feed and Just Strong fitness apparel. Her photography has been featured by Instagram, Apple, TIME Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Oprah Magazine. Jenn’s work has been published internationally, has been seen in several books and has graced the covers of several magazines.

Jenn became a social media influencer by accident when she started to explore Instagram as a way to share her life on the ranch with folks that don’t get to experience it. It’s grown into an incredible platform that she uses to empower women, create an environment for self improvement and share life on the ranch.

When she’s not working, she loves to drink coffee, play with her naughty border collie named Copper, start ranch colts, and run about the country chasing cans. Her mother still thinks she doesn’t have a “real” job.

    Hey Jen,

Good Luck with your New Years goals. I have a few floating around in my head and need to get them on paper.

I noticed your article in Ag Week the other day, good for you! I didn’t know you were writing for them.

I like the “small business” feature idea. I agree with your thought about small businesses in our communities.

Have your see or read Dakota Dreams by Karen Pearson? She features several ladies who have just the type of businesses you are talking about. If your interested, I wrote down their websites and I can send that to you.

I’m going to have to check out your Foto Friday.

Your idea to extend the gift shop sounds creative and fun. Let it be that, not an extra task. Your photos are gorgeous, let tham continue to be the basis of your creativity!
