Mother nature blessed me with two gorgeous fillies this year, or girl power if you will…
The first born cutie is a full sister to Issimo. Her mother is Dolce. Those of you who’ve been around a while, will recall, Dolce was the first horse I ever raised. My babies are having babies!
I decided, after taking suggestions via Instagram, to name her Belissima and call her Belle. I think she’s just adorable. But then aren’t all baby horses adorable?
The next filly I was blessed with is extra special to me, because her mother, Bombshell, is a daughter of my mare Shuttle. We put Shuttle down last year, at the age of 14. She’d battled an infection in her stifle joint since she was 5, and despite our best efforts to eradicate it, we were unsuccessful. She did however bless me with 5 babies: Bam Bam, Rival, Penny, Bombshell and Cosmo.
Prism is Bombshell’s baby. Cosmo is going into my riding string, though I did put a dozen or so rides on Bombshell, before deciding to let her replace her mother in the broodmare band. This little filly is full of chrome! A stocking on her right front, and white on both back pasterns are going to make her look beautiful flying down the alley. I’ve got big plans for this girl.
Prism is extra special to me for the reason that she’s carrying on Shuttle’s bloodlines. I took name suggestions for a week on this little girl, and nothing seemed to fit. I needed something pretty, something shiny, something special and powerful, and as I drove home from the Belle Fourche Rodeo on the 1st of July it hit me: — Prism. I’d call her Prism.
That’s my foal crop for 2018! I’ll try to keep you in photos — if not here, then for sure on my Instagram feed!
Happy Trails!
